WSUS not installing on larger then 2TB drive

Recently we started installing boot sectors larger than 2TB.  To do this effectively we use UEFI instead of BIOS to overcome the 2TB boot sector limitation.  In most cases this allows the OS install to use GPT which allows for larger then 2TB discs.

After doing this we experienced issues with WSUS where it gave us an error of: “At least 1 GB of free disk space on the system drive is necessary for this installation.”

Obviously there is plenty of space but WSUS can’t handle larger then 2TB OS partitions it seems.  What we did to resolve this is shrink the OS partition (c:)  then merge it with the empty disk to create that large disk again.  After WSUS was installed everything worked properly.
